Situated on an acre of private waterfront land on the edge of beautiful Discovery Bay, Sea Haven is a traditional West Indian cottage. The living room is painted the color of sunshine and the vaulted ceiling is painted to match the sky.
Among the many antique furnishings are a 200 year old rocking chair made of twigs, Tortoise-back mahogany dining chairs, circa 1780, are from Admiralty House in Port Royal and were used by Lords Rodney and Horatio Nelson.
The living room opens wide to the 60 foot long verandah furnished in wicker chaises and draped with flowering vines. It overlooks the shimmering turquoise water of Discovery Bay. On one side of the waterfront is a small sandy area. On the other side, cut-stone steps lead into wonderful swimming and snorkeling water. A new raft is anchored in the bay for your pleasure.
A rough-hewn 17th Century chair in the master bedroom belonged to the captain of a schooner that plied between the islands. A 19th Century lady’s writing desk adorns another bedroom. The Sea Haven staff goes home each night. When guests have eaten dinner and are settled and comfortable for the evening,
Driving time from the Montego Bay airport to Sea Haven is approximately 60 minutes. Discovery Bay is an incredibly beautiful and placid body of water truly one of Jamaica’s treasures. The eastern shore with its lovely villas and cottages is colloquially known as “The Riviera.”
From the water’s edge, it’s an easy swim to the sunning raft. Watch stunning sunsets from the verandah or Jacuzzi plunge pool. After sunset, your chef will serve you delicious candlelight dinners on Spode china, either inside, on the open-air verandah… or, perhaps, in the gazebo over a natural coral formation on the water’s edge.
All the bathrooms are redone, completely replaced the deteriorated paving at the front, re-roofed the Gazebo, new landing and sea ladder, launched a new 12 foot raft, doubled our water storage and painted pretty much throughout. Four new water craft are ordered and on the way, two Ocean kayaks and two paddle boards and a nice stand erected to hold them neatly.
Puerto Seco Beach Club with a wonderful sloping white sand beach, is right by the entrance to Fortlands Road, less than a half mile walk, and entry is free to all guests staying at Sea Haven.
